CP Plexi Lead

Pickup Position: Bridge Pickup Type: Humbucker
Requires Expansion Pack: No
Artist: Satriani
Author: frantick
Comments: Well, it's what I've come up with anyway. Maybe not spot on, but it works for me and is much more open sounding than the canned Plexi Lead patch.

Adjust noise gate to your pickup and drop me a line in digi guitar forum if you like.

Here's Sean's post on the DUC...

Direct tracks were printed for all of the guitar passes so every note can be reamped, if desired.

So, there are six tunes in the session - I did some mp3's to give folks an idea of what's in there.

All effects on the guitars are from Eleven Rack and are printed directly on the tracks. The drum loops are from the collection that comes free with Pro Tools 8, and all of the keyboard sounds in the two tunes with them come from Xpand2.

http://www.seanhalley.com/Clean_Strat.mp3 – classic clean Strat tone. It's my old black Strat with Suhr FL pickups, and a Suhr BPSSC backplate, through the Hi-Boost amp. There is a Rhodes track from Xpand2 for the pop thing.

http://www.seanhalley.com/Dirty_Low_Danno.mp3 a low-tuned Danelectro U2 doing aggressive surf riffs. Kravitzy-sounding lead is a Gretsch Silverjet.

http://www.seanhalley.com/Spaghetti_Reggae.mp3 – A mixture of Andy Summers and weird Italian art film/David Lynch music – Farfisa from Xpand2. This was created specifically to showcase the delays and spring reverb, and wouldn't be out of place in a Twin Peaks revival probably :)

http://www.seanhalley.com/Old_Metal.mp3 – I haven't played this kind of stuff in years, so I hope it's authentic enough for you dudes who dig old metal. Had to dig waaay back in the memory banks, and Holy Cow - I didn't realize I'd have to play a few 16th triplets at 120 when I picked that drum loop! I shouldn't have done this tune last, fingers were already sore....

– intended to be kind of classic Meters-sounding by the end, with a Motown-y Tele part in the bridge . Dark and simple.

– Yes, it sounds darned near the same as the other country tune I did earlier. I tried to blame it on my small country drum loop library (, but I haven't played a country gig in over ten years, so I'm pretty sure it's my chops that are the problem!

Basically, 70% of the guitars were played to the loops first, and then the bass came afterward. I plugged The Ugliest Bass In The World into an original Focusrite ISA430, and then into a handbuilt LA2A limiter, and then straight into the 192 I/O.

I left the compression settings and eq the same for all of the bass tracks, and just used pickup balance (The Ugliest Bass In The World has a P-J setup) and right hand position to change the tone.
