If you don't record, then you're right, there isn't a need of ProTools, or any other DAW for you.

Personally, I own and operate a small project studio. I collaboratively record on projects all over the country, and also do mobile recording.

Other folks here record as a hobby. Still others may record so that they can become better pickers and chronicle their progress.
