Hi all, well I'm looking for an amp that has 2 speakers and fx loop. My genre of playing is hard rock and metal. something for small jam sessions and bedroom. Any help or direction to go would be most thankful. My budget would be no more than $500.00

For $500, I'd grab a used 11R or one of the ones off of Ebay that doesn't come with ProTools for $300 and a used Alto TS112A from guitar center.

BAM!

Done!

Yeah, I think the majority of the people who use the 11R have it going through a PA monitor of some type, I use an electro voice zlx12p and it gets loud and stays clear, I like it better than the Alto. I also have an 11R always connected to the computer, it has its own studio monitor speaker (a JBL LSR-308, the computer has a pair of 305's) and I like that what I hear through it would be what I would hear as a recording, but I don't think it would be loud enough to do shows (hence the zlx12p setup for live).

I don't know of anyone that uses a guitar amp for the 11r, I originally tried using mine as a preamp into my b52 at100 head with 4x12 cab and I wasn't happy with it, and worse was that if I got a patch sounding good it would sound horrible when recorded through usb unless I mic'd it and went through a different interface...

I know neither of the speakers I use have an effects loop, but I haven't needed one after the signal hits the amp for my applications. Why are you wanting an effects loop (just curious)?

I would get a solid state power amp and a 2x12 with v30s, probably used around that cost for Rectifier cabinets. Even a pedal like Electro-Harmonix 44 Magnum that serves as a power amp.

My son's actually been gigging through a fairly cheap bass amp head/cab. Those are really cheap and sound great tbh. The tone knobs really color the sound any way you could possibly need. I wouldn't have known, but his band teacher got a bunch of mics and stuff at an auction and let him try it.

This is very similar to that setup. They run from 30-450 watts and guitar sounds are huge wth the Eleven Rack. He uses the 200watt one I think, but it's a head & 4x10.

Then you also have a killer bass guitar rig too, of course.

The sound guy was pretty impressed with that setup. I wish I had the direct sounds from the mic.

Amp & head separate:

With my 11R, I'm using a Peavey Classic 60/60 tube power amp and Peavey 4x12" cab loaded with Celestion G12K-85 speakers at home. Sounds incredible!!!
I'm also using an old Carvin SX60 1x12" combo for jam sessions with friends (will replace the speaker with a Celestion G12K-100 in the near future) that sounds not so bad.
Finally I have an EV ZLX12P for creating patch for direct to FOH, and use it as my monitor when gigging.
I have separate rigs for each setup, mostly a parametric eq in FX1 after amp.

Yeah, I think it is totally do-able to have a power amp setup into a cab and have it sound great, but I have found I can't just treat the 11r as a preamp, even with the amp and cab sections bypassed (or amp set to clean) it is trickier than I need to get a good sound. And once I get that sound it doesn't translate well to USB recording. But it may just be me, I have limited time to spend messing with settings and patches.. Even with 100 or so presets I still always feel like I'm running out..

BTW, I used to run a digitech 2101 into a peavey classic 50/50 tube power amp into a peavey slanted upright 2x12, that thing was beast! And so heavy (meant both ways).. It just wasn't the same running the 11r into the power amp section of my AT100 tube head. It's funny we have great gear and then get something we think is better and then try to make it sound 'as good' as the gear it's replacing, odd we are.. Though I think I have broken through that cycle (just have rose colored memories of my long distant gear), I wouldn't trade the 11r setup with the epsi for anything I had in the past.

Yeah 11R with Logidy EPSi is a dream. With a foot pedal for switching patches and cabinets, you can do a lot you could never do live and not even have to deal with cabinets. The Ownhammer cabinets are getting better & better too. I think I'm still improving at making patches even after all this time. There's some amps that have little things you can "unlock" when you try things. Like the Treadplate V with the mids cranked and the highs all the way down turns some kinda thing on inside Eleven Rack (a bonus compressor/EQ?) but it's a huge change from any other setting. You can do so much stuff with the two Treadplate models and a handful of cabinets. Eleven Rack has too much stuff, which is really the biggest problem haha

I'm definitely going to have to try that!

I've been quite pleased with my 150 watt stereo Fender Mustang IV. Weighs half what a Fender Twin weighs (30lbs or so, easy on the back), has everything you could want inside including effects, 2x12 Celestion speakers for around $500. I recommend downloading the Fender Fuse software and tweak, tweak, tweak - you'd be surprised how many cool sounds you can make. You can also use the stereo effects loop with your favorite stereo amp modeler like the Eleven Rack. Pluging it it bypasses Fender's modeling so your just using the solid state amp inside the Mustang and the Eleven Rack as a front in pre - in stereo. Sounds killer!
