i've been doing some craigslist trading for about a year with the end plan of getting another axe-fx II. i have a ton of gear to sell now, so i'm close to getting back on the train. i love the eleven rack, but i just played more when i had the axe-fx II. more toys to make noise i guess. i get very few requests for 11R presets nowadays, mostly because i already made just about every preset anyone could want. so i don't play as much.

i need to get into a band again. i moved to New Orleans and haven't found a new church, so no church band to play with yet. new girlfriend just moved in with me, so you know i ain't playing guitar much. gotta entertain the new lady and go out to eat and all that stuff while we are still in the honeymoon phase.

so i was talking to her about my lack of interest in playing guitar as of the last year and she asked when i played the most. it was when i had the axe-fx II for a few months. so she said i should get another one asap. she's a keeper! lol. i showed her my gear collection and told her that i could sell it all and easily get another axe-fx II and she was all for it.

anyone looking to buy some gear, let me know. some things for sale:

Carvin V3M head $399
Bugera 333XL Infinium (brand new in box) $499
Marshall jMP1 preamp $499
Digitech GSP1101 with control pedal - $499
Espi C with Ownhammer IR collection - $200
Ibanez tone blaster 100H head - $250
Carvin carpet covered 4x12" cabinet - $250
Peavey 6505 4x12" cabinet $399
(2) Celestion G12T-75's (from 1986) - $50 each
(2) Celestion V30's - $80 each
Alesis DM5 drum brain with a dozen triggers - $250
Presonus Firepod 8 channel recording interface - $200
and much more....

Hey Bro glad to hear you are doing better. Hows your kids with everything now?

I wanted to hear your opinion on this thread Line 6 Helix I see that you never weighed in on it and I see you haven't been around here as much lately and I thought maybe you missed this. I am sure I can say some of us value your "ear" for tone. now that you are talking about getting another axe fx2. I was kind waiting to see what you thought about the Helix though I will probably get 1 eventually but don't really see myself getting an axe fx2 or a kemper. I too have a bunch of gear to get rid of and I always say that's what I am going to do and go ahead and buy what I want and never get around to selling anything. LOL

i don't mind shipping to any country as long as you don't mind paying the shipping cost.

i looked at the Helix and thought it looked pretty nice. a little pricey, but nice.

i miss the tonematch feature of the axe-fx II. i could change pickups and anything i wanted to easily.

eleven rack isn't going anywhere!

I'm moving away from the 11r live myself....going back to a small tube amp and pedal board.

Our drummer might be interested in the Alesis. What kind of triggers are they?

Without question the axe is the only piece of gear, that after I bought it, I just don't have any desire for anything else, should be some around since they have discontinued them, glad to hear things are getting better.

FWIW - I'm selling my Axe II and going back to using my Eleven Rack.
It is simpler, sounds great and does what I need & want.

This is the *4th* time I've taken the Axe II for an extended drive. I convince myself I need 100+ amp models and extensive tweakability - then I rediscover that I don't.

Let me talk to my drummer Ross, he may want that package. Beats the heck outta mic'ing drums.

I just got my pedalboard set to the loop of my new amp, and I love love it. Egnater Rebel 30 and 1x12 cab.

I hope you get inspired to play again when you pick one up. Every time I get somewhat interested in the AxeII I just head over to their forum and read messages from the hardcore fans and also from the man himself. Enough of a turn-off for me that I get over the Axe real quick.

Very nice to hear how things are going with your new directions, I always wonder if I were to start over, how would my guitar hobby fit in. After so long, you have to have your creative outlet. Axe FX II is great. I wish I could buy all your stuff haha but already spent this year's tax return. Really happy for you nonetheless & thing this is awesome.

Nice. You're in for a nice surprise when you get to use FW19. The mid gain tones and early breakup are quite improved since you last used one.

He is probably going to gag on my crappy presets.

I left my junk on there..just in case you find something good.

I fell in love with the Splawn and "birdie-fied" it to rock with my 7-string..but the master will probably blank that thing out the instant he gets it!! LOL..!!!

i will save the presets that are on there first, then make sure the latest firmware is installed. then i will load up a bunch of IR's. i need to find some of my old IR's. for some reason i can't find a backup of anything that i did on the axe-fx II, just axe-fx Ultra backups.

i really was hoping to have some of my old presets as a starting point. but they may not be worth anything on the new firmware.

clips and presets to come soon.

yep. tons of gain, reverb and chorus. total 80's shredfest to be had with that tone. i shredded a few minutes on it.

i factory defaulted the axe-fx and loaded up a bunch of my firmware 11 presets, which were way too loud and needed tweaking.

i love this machine!

Ross, I was hoping you'd get an Atomic Amplifire and Atomic CLR wedge so you could make my life easier! smile

I'm still using my Eleven Rack at church (for the time being) and just recently got my CLR a couple of weeks ago. So far so good.

I need to get more comfortable with the switches on the Amplifire and get my Ground Control Pro buttons set up to work with it.

Wes

i hate to say it, but the 11R is not nearly as good as the Amplifire. Way better modeling and the ability to load IR's.

The effects are pretty basic, but I think sound really good, but the thing has crazy routing possibilities that the 11R has none of, and it is meant to be used on a pedal board, so you can have any effect there is..

The Amplifire is the best budget item you can get if you cannot afford an Axe FX 2, hands down.

What kind of routing can it do that the 11R can't? Pretty much every block can move in the 11R to where you want it.

I guess in my mind there are a lot more choices in routing, plus there is the effects loop, that in my mind, along with the IR loading, totally completes the obsolescence of almost every other modeler out there. The next step is $1500+ so you save about $1000 and get 90% (IMHO)of an Axe FX II unit.

I had to sell all of the above again, but in the future, I will not hesitate to get another AmpliFire and be more than happy with it.

If I ever get the $$$ again to get another Axe FX II, I could die happy! smile

Hey Birdie, I completely respect your opinions and I'm glad you found some cool units. You peaked my curiosity so I went and checked the manual on the amplifier.

My perspective (based on the manual and not playing the unit):
Amplifier effects loop mono send / 11R effects loop stereo send = + 11R
Amplifier FX loop static placement in chain / 11R FX loop moveable = + 11R
Amplifier FX moveable BUT to select locations / 11R FX moveable anywhere = + 11R

It looks like it has some extra knobs in the amp/cab models for "deep editing" of the amp models (sag, air, etc) so I'd put that as a plus towards the amplifier.

Also, loading IRs I would put as a plus, although I personally would not get much benefit from that. I've gone down the IR path using an IR loader on my PC and found that I like the 11R cabinets and mic options. I can see why people want that flexibility though.

Anyways, they are different units, it looks like aimed at slightly different usage models (I would say 11R more studio use, amplifier more integrated into live rig). I hope to try one someday.

I have to say that i'm very happy with the axe-fx II. i dialed in a Friedman BE and HBE preset pretty quickly and captured the tone that i've always wanted.

i will try to duplicate that tone on the eleven rack of course. wink

I have the AmpliFIRE also... so I'll chime in.

From the perspective of amps/tone - I think the AmpliFIRE and 11R went for a similar strategy - quality over quantity. Both units have a smaller amp model list compared to other MFX - and smaller effect offerings as well. That said, everything in both AF and 11R are of excellent quality.

I do feel the amp modeling in the AF is better - but not a HUGE improvement over the 11R. For me, the bigger difference is the IR vs the 11R cab/mic block. I always struggled finding the cab/mic combination in the 11R that was what I really wanted. I did audition a number of IRs - but found the one that was the what I was looking for. I was able to cast a broader net than a limited offering - which is what, for me at least, was the difference maker.

The other things I feel are benefits of the AF are:
- it fits on my pedal board - the 11R required a rack bag - which was another thing to carry around. Not a huge deal - but one less thing
- it is being actively developed/expanded. There has been a firmware update since the AF was released. Another is in the works. Granted they're not coming fast - but they are doing firmware updates - and listening to user feedback to do so
- it has more horsepower from a DSP perspective - so they can do more with the unit overall
- very powerful EQ options. The cab block has EQ options. There are 3 para EQ blocks that can be assigned pre or post amp model. There is a graphic EQ, also with pre/post assignment. They have an additional "pre-EQ" with a built-in low-cut parameter.
- it has XLR and 1/4" outputs - you can independently assign the cabinet block so you can send the IR out the XLR but not the 1/4" - so you can run direct to FOH and use a power amp/cab on stage.

Let me conclude by stating that I used my 11R exclusively for several years - REALLY like it and fully believe it is an awesome piece of equipment! I see the AF as being an improved 11R in a floor based unit - but that is simply my opinion - YMMV.

I wish I could get one. I know I Dont need it and am pretty convinced the tone I am getting now with the 11r/logidy setup is on par with what i have heard from the axe ii but I still freaking want one.

Next year....

I was running the 11R/Torpedo CAB - excellent tones, to be sure! What was driving me nuts was that I was back to tap dancing around to switch everything when I'd change presets (I probably could have gotten my MIDI controller to do it - but just never got there) - but also the constant struggle with levels. That is the one thing I'm far happier about with the AmpliFIRE - the simplicity. It's all in one box - it all switches together naturally.

However - I agree with you - the tones of the 11R + Logidy/CAB are excellent.

i am trying out for a band this week and i'm running into my first "problem". what rig do i use? obviously i want to use the axe-fx II, but i hate to drag out that much money for a tryout.

i still have an eleven rack and a behringer midi pedal, but i would need to dial up some new tones to match the axe-fx II to be happy. it's what i do, so no problem there i guess.

option 3: girlfriend was watching me as i watched a video from Chappers on the AmpliFire pedal. she says "why don't you get one of those?" i say "why don't you buy it for me?" she says "ok, baby". lol. so do i take her up on that offer? she does make a bunch of money, so it won't hurt her finances at all. seems like that one piece of gear could work for me. i really only need to switch between 3 presets, so i might not even need a midi pedal?

somebody with the amplifire please chime in.

GET IT.

I REALLY like the AmpliFIRE! To me, it is what the 11R wanted to be, but also in a floor based implementation. They took the same approach - fewer amp models, fewer effects, but everything is of high quality. The ability to load your favorite IR makes it what I always felt the 11R tried to be.

I like having any effect I tend to typically use available on any preset - so I run a M-9 with mine. Makes things really easy with regard to bouncing between a cover band and playing at church - primarily with some specific dotted 8th delays and trems I use at church that I don't with a cover band. Aside from that - I've decided I prefer direct preset access by banks of 4 so I got a Disaster Area DMC-8d midi controller.

But yeah - it's pretty awesome, IMO. And... it's an active product so they're going to continue to add amp models/features.

i'm so close to getting the tone i want out of the 11R that i hate to have her spend the money.

i will get the general consensus on my latest Friedman presets for the 11R and see.

presets:

the axe-fx II just sounds and feels "bigger" than the 11R. of course i'm using two different cabs to get the extra width and feel that i like and the 11R can only go there with an Epsi.

DUDE!!! just wait a little longer and get a Helix so you can sell me the "helix superpack" grin I need "my Boy Blue" on it for 1. I pre-ordered mine and the all in one box thing is one of the pro's I see in it. maybe she can take some of the sting out of the price tag for ya... smirk LOL. hint: if you have a friend at GC in your area you need to get them to use there "friends and family 20% off" coupon for you. they get 2 a month... GC has an ETA on there computer of 9-11-15 at there main warehouse.
