I am new to the group. As I've just purchased an Eleven Rack. It came with PT11 (free upgrade to 12) with ilok. However I am happy with Logic and really don't want to learn another SW. Question I want to ask is; what will I miss if I use 11R without PT11/12?

Nothing, as far as I am aware! You can download the free 11 Rack Editor if you want and should be good to go.

You can sell PT11 if you have not registered it and have some extra cash to feed your GAS habit!

You won't be missing anything by working in Logic, except the input and output names, you have to know what input numbers (like Input 1, Input 2, etc.) correspond to the 11r counterpart (like Guitar Input, Mic Input, Rig output L, etc.). I made a post about the input-output assignments about a month or two back that should apply to your case. Other than that it is like any other interface, just make sure you download all the current Mac drivers and the standalone Eleven Rack Editor to be able to save, load, and adjust presets.

This is the thread with the Input-Output info, it is for Reaper but also works for Logic.

You can take it a step further and use Mac's Audio-Midi Setup to create an aggregate device if you have another interface. I have both the 11R and an Apogee Duet 2 and I just leave my 11R hooked up to my FRFR monitor and have all the playback in Logic go through the Duet/studio speakers and my tracking audio go through the FRFR.

there are some things that you can do in pro tools with the 11R that you can't with other DAW's, just off the top of my head i can think of three.

the eleven rack mini window
the 11R templates

I think they dropped the mini-window from the PT11 version, now it's covered by the stand-alone editor. Still, it might be nice to embed settings and have templates, but I always build and save my own templates and have never used embed settings so it doesn't impact my workflow, ymmv.

i'm on PT11 and it has the mini window but i don't know if 12 does. i could live without the mini window tbh.

embed settings is one of the those things that now i've had, i'd honestly hate to do without.

yes you're right about making templates but it's one of those touches i'd miss. it's the way the eleven as an interface integrates with pro tools that i like, it's all little things like when you click I/O and everything's listed. i know none of it is crucial to making a great track but it just makes it nice to use, it feels like one thing if you know wot i mean?

Sorry to revive a bit of an old thread, but when I was on PT10, though I didn't use it much, I know I had the 11R mini-window. After upgrading to 11 a couple months ago, I just realized today I lost the min-window and it's not an option on the Edit Window selector. I made sure I have the latest drivers for the 11R. On Mac/Yosemite. Any guidance?

Looks like you will have to use the stand alone editor.
