HeadRush Question...

HeadRush Question... - 05/10/17 10:27 AM

I've been eyeballing this unit. Is this unit anywhere close to the Helix? I've been on the fence about buying the Helix, or an Axe FX. I'm trying to spend the least amount of money possible to get the best sound possible. I know that's an oxymoron, but that's what I'm looking for: the best bang for the buck.

Haven't heard the unit, but I think the concept of low cost units producing professional sounds is totally achievable, more-so now than ever before..

But, I have said this in older posts, if you haven't checked out the EPSi IR box (loaded with Ownhammer IRs) run in the effects loop of the 11R you really should. Really turns the 11R into a professional rig. PM me if you end up going that route.

At some point gear we buy stops becoming 'better' and just becomes 'different', it is then about finding the right flavor (which can take a lifetime on its own)..

Briz, I have to agree with Downrazor11. The EPSi with Ownhammer IRs is a big step up in tone. Putting another $200.00 into your 11 Rack may be the most economical thing you can do to make your great tone even greater.

Re: HeadRush Question... - 05/12/17 09:02 AM

ditto.

i have everything worth having right now and the eleven rack is still a great tool.

if you are gonna eq during mixdown, which pretty much everyone does, then all you need is a tone that inspires you to play.

HeadRush IMHO does overcome the limitations of the 11 Rack as Pete Thorn demonstrates here:

Re: HeadRush Question... - 05/19/17 10:23 AM

I have to admit that I know absolutely nothing about the EPSi. Will it also work w/ a Line 6 POD HD Pro X?

Re: HeadRush Question... - 05/19/17 02:58 PM

It should. I don't know much about the Pod HD or Pro X, but the EPSi is a stomp pedal that goes in your effects loop. As long as there is an effects loop and you can turn off the cab simulation, it will work. Just make sure the effects loop is at the end of the chain.

Helix LT same processors as Helix but less I/O options and no scrible stips and same price as Headrush $999.00 us... Same presets as helix floor and rack same tones just a chopped down version to make it less expencive and was all ready on the table when helix was announced so it aint like they wipped it up just to compete with the Headrush...

I was going to snagg a Headrush and check it out the send it back if I didn't like it but then I saw the Variax Shuriken and that is my next piece of gear!
Who knows I still might just grab one to check it out down the road... It dose look very cool!

Re: HeadRush Question... - 05/23/17 12:46 AM

Oh and the EPSI can be used after any stomp box or processor and you don't "have to" cut off the built in cabs to use it some have said that it sounds better with both...

I really need to sell my 11r since I've not even turned it on since I got the Helix...I did sell the EPSI a wile back and got what I paid for it so it dose hold its value.

Briz, if you need an IR loader to pair with your 11R you can choose between many options:
* Epsi as said in previous posts
* AMT Pangaea: (http://amtelectronics.com/new/amt-pangaea-cp-100/) comes with preloaded IRs, but you can load yours too; no midi.
* Two Notes Torpedo Cab: (http://www.two-notes.com/en/torpedo-cab) a little bit expensive, but with midi support
* Digitech CabdryVR: (http://digitech.com/en-US/products/cabdryvr) comes with preloaded cabs emulations and you CANNOT load yours.

Thanks, to all, for your feedback. I'm interested in the IR loader option, but I can't seem to find a "how to" guide. I'd be interested in using it on both the 11R & the POD HD Pro X.

You can try a DAW plugin I think LeCab is one... someone else will know I am sure... this way you can try it before you spend $$$ on a loader.

here is a link to my huge stack of free IR's from around the web

Re: HeadRush Question... - 05/24/17 08:21 AM

for recording i would suggest using an IR loader on your pc for free. i would only get an Epsi if i wanted to get that same tone live.

Re: HeadRush Question... - 05/24/17 04:43 PM

As IR loader I suggest NADIR (https://www.kvraudio.com/product/nadir-by-ignite-amps)
To start with some free and good IRs:
* Ownhammer Mesa V30 60w: http://www.ownhammer.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=411
* RedWirez Marshall cab: http://www.redwirez.com/free1960g12m25s.jsp
* Line6 Allure Pack (from my dropbox): https://www.dropbox.com/s/9teqlgyrc847qpt/Allure-Pack-IRs.zip?dl=0
* Ola Englund's Hesu 2x12 (from my dropbox): https://www.dropbox.com/s/8foztn22em2szqf/Ola%20Hesu%20M160-rev1.wav?dl=0

Which kind of informations do you need? How to connect it to 11R or Pod or something else?

Re: HeadRush Question... - 05/25/17 09:21 AM

The primary use would be recording. I guess what I need is to understand how it works with the DAW (Pro Tools 10.3.9) and what settings / adjustments need to be made for the 11R & the POD HD Pro X. I never use the POD HD Pro X because it sounds sterile. If IR's could help in that area, it would be nice to use the POD every once in awhile. Right now, it's a $700 rack mounted paper weight.

Re: HeadRush Question... - 05/25/17 10:21 AM

you can even make an IR from your final tone after eq. it's more involved, but it's worth it if you finally have your tone down and want to simply hit record and not worry about doing any more eq to get that tone.

If you use a hardware ir loader (like Epsi or AMT pangaea, for example) just put it in the loop of the 11R or POD HD and enable the loop, disable cab emulation of 11R (pod) and disable every post cab eq you put in the 11R preset.
For Ir loader plugins do the same except the loop part: in pro tools you have to arm a track, load the plugin (I don't remember if pro tools can use VSTs) and disable direct monitoring.
Try the various IR you loaded into the ir loader and find the one (or more than one for various purposes/guitars) you like most, be happy (for testing Irs I recorded a short part with no cab and the reamped it changing IRs until i found something I like).
Hope this helps.

I've seen Anderton videos for a while, and it seems like these guys are unimpressed with the HeadRush

Absolutely!!! Agree 100%.

I'm knee deep into the EQ IR Tone Matching. It's a fascinating feature, that give you pretty much EXACT tones of your guitar heroes.
