Routing Question! Please help! haha - 08/16/15 01:00 PM

Ok.. I swear I had this figured out before but I've moved and just set my studio back up and am running into routing confusion with the Eleven Rack. I've tried searching and I think I'm just not using the right terms.. but here is my problem.

I have my 11R set up as my audio interface for my DAW (Studio One 3 at the moment). I have XLR cables running from the 11R to my monitors and the 11R is set as my interface in the DAW. Now.. no matter what I do the processed sound from the 11R is coming through my monitors on top of what is playing in my DAW. Isn't there a way to have the 11R only play what is coming from the DAW? I swear there is but I can't remember/figure it out.

Right now I want to use the 11R as my input for the dry guitar signal and use some VST's in my DAW for the guitar tone.. feeling really dumb here. Help?

Close... but not quite... I didn't really explain it well I guess. So I have my monitors plugged into outputs of the 11R so I can just turn it on and play and hear the guitar through the monitors. Now the problem comes in when I want to use the 11R in my DAW. Once I open my DAW I can set the input in my DAW to the DI and that works fine, however the processed guitar sound comes through the speakers as well. I'll have to mess with it more when I have time... I'm sure there is something obvious I'm missing.

Thanks though!

hmmm.....simplest option may be to create a preset with all effects/amps/cabs turned off or bypassed...

Also look at page 64 of the manual - Configuring your inputs

You have to select the track input "guitar input" like when you use the re-amp template, just load up a session and load re-amp template and look at the settings and you will see, dry track input should be guitar input and the regular guitar track input should be 11r if you want to hear the dry guitar track then mute the regular guitar track and set the out put of the dry track too 11rack output. oh and you may need to arm the dry track to record.

hope that helps.... just going from memory.

Ok.. let me circle back on this as it's been a LONG time and I just ran into this issue again.. I'll try to explain in much better this time. I've been using Pro Tools for a while now and the issue doesn't exist there, but I just tried using Studio One again and ran into the problem right off the bat.

First, my setup is like this:
My Eleven Rack has XLR cables going to my Monitors for sound output. If I simply turn on the 11R and my monitors I can play my guitar at will and all sounds fine. I've also got the USB cable from the 11R plugged into my computer so that I can use it as an interface when I use a DAW.

Now.. here is what I'm talking about. If I'm playing my guitar "stand-alone" everything sounds fine. If I then open Pro Tools and have the 11R configured as my interface the sound immediately stops coming out of my speakers until I create a track, set the input to be for example GuitarL and turn on the Input Monitoring for the track. Then I can hear the guitar again.

Now if I do the same thing in another DAW (Studio One in this case), the sound continues to come out of the speakers no matter what. If I then create a track in my DAW, set the input etc... I'm still hearing the guitar no matter what. If I then turn on Input monitoring on the track in Studio One, now I'm hearing TWO instances of my guitar... the one from the 11R AND the instance on the track! Pro Tools is smart enough to cut the sound of my guitar to the speakers from the 11R until I add the track and turn on input monitoring.

What am I missing here?

**UPDATE** Oh boy.... just checked the 11R forum on DUC and searched around.. seems this is a common issue for anyone NOT using Pro Tools. Looks like the 'Best' solution is the three cable method and running out of the 11R into another interface.. which I find lame. One of the appeals is using the 11R as my interface.. *sigh*
