i have been asked this many times, and i keep intending on making a video to cover how-to do some things, but it hasn't happened yet. so i thought it would good to throw this info out here on the interweb for everyone to see.
normally, i would setup a post-amp parametric eq this way:
1) high pass shelf at 130-180hz, cut from 6-11db depending on the amp model.
2) low mid bump at 275-400hz, maybe 1-4db. adds that nice woody room tone. Q at about 4.
3) notch at 4.3-4.6khz to cut the harshness down. set the Q between 6-8 as a starting point, but don't be afraid to go higher or lower if needed.
4) low pass shelf at 5k-8k to cut any remaining fizziness (if needed). maybe 3-6db cut.
this is a starting point, not a general rule. i would start from there and tweak as needed.
the point of this eq setting is to give me an in-the-room tone without any harshness.
get your mids sounding right first, then the lows, and finally the highs. once you turn the highs up, you ears won't hear things the same way and you will get ear fried long before you perfect your tone.
