Best amp for 11R?

Best amp for 11R? - 10/24/13 12:53 PM

I have a line on three different amps, all the same price.
1. ART SLA2
2. Tech 21 Power engine 400
3. Rocktron velocity 100

I like the single space rack of the ART & Rocktron but I can always buy a bigger rack if I decide to get the Tech 21.

Anyone?

I too am curious to know what some of you think, as I've been considering an amp for the 11R. I currently go direct into the console which suits my needs for most gigs, but there will be times when an amp and cab on stage would be preferable.

Back when I was looking at getting a power amp for my 11R, I was going to get the Rocktron Velocity as it was getting the most positive reviews at the time.

The only knock that I ever heard on it was that since it's a solid state amp, it didn't quite have the low end thump that a tube powered amp does.

I use the 11R and a tube amp head and 412 cab. I send 11r amp out to amp head effect return, and turn of cab emulation. Sounds grea! I USE a BLACKSTAR 50 watt head and blackstar 412 cab with 75 celestions.

I'm using a Mesa 50/50 poweramp into a a DR.z 2x12 cab, and it sounds great.

Yeah, I use a tube head and 4x12 cab. Some amps like to be in the input and set on clean channel with a long plate preamp tube in the first position, and others seem to like the effects loop and just run off of the power tubes. I have tried marshall, Crate, Legacy, Krank, Stiff and they all seem to like it. The Krank and the Crate the most though.

Or if you care about using a lot of tonal capabilites that comes with 11R when buy linear PA stuff that is good reproducing the tone that comes from the 11R directly without coloring the sound.

my vote goes to the line 6 "dream stage" I just connect to the mixer direct. Also I have just connected to 2 L2M's at 800-watt, two-way, bi-amped speaker system and also tried the 2 L3M's at 1,400-watt, 3-way, tri-amped speaker both sound superb if you can spare the extra change they will save your back and don't take up allot of space in your car.... Really the L2M's are more than sufficient plenty of lows and they have

StageSource® L2m loudspeakers use massive DSP—unmatched in their class—and huge power to deliver studio-quality live sound at every gig. You can use six powerful DSP-based Smart Speaker modes to optimize the speaker’s output for a variety of performance scenarios including front-of-house PA, floor monitor, personal PA, keyboard backline, acoustic guitar backline, or with a multi-effects guitar processor as a high-performance electric guitar speaker system. An onboard accelerometer and pole-mount sensors automatically detect the speaker’s orientation and set the Smart Speaker mode accordingly.

sorry if it's to much like a hard sell but I can't say enough about this system ' heck you might as well call me "Line 6 Boy" laugh

or get The L3T or L2T can function as a self-contained live sound solution. With a full-featured onboard mixer (2 channel strips) including multiple inputs for microphones, instruments, external mixers and MP3 players, L3t delivers all of the tools you need for great live sound.

ok I'll stop now.

Re: Best amp for 11R? - 10/27/13 08:53 PM

This thread made me try something new & with great results!

So.....I love my 11R for recording & into my studio monitors....

& I've liked it with a powered floor monitor (not loved it).......

I've also gotten great results using it in the 4cm w/ my 5150iii amp & cab as an FX ONLY device........

I decided to try the 1/4 out to amp #2 into the 5150's FX return only input.......I've got the cab modeling turned off in the 11R & I'm only using the 5150 head as a giant (Bad Ass) power amp.......The results are quite amazing & the "Best of both worlds" (yea, I went there)!!!!!!!!

I'm a fan of the modeling & the amps in the 11R......I also love how simple it is & the tone...yea the tone......Now add the fact that I've got a 2x12 guitar [censored] pumping out 50 watts of tube awesomeness & add ALL the great stuff in the 11R......& yea......This makes a lot of sense!!!!!!

I do wonder if I would get the same results with just a tube power amp though?????

Anyways.....Great thread & thanks for the positive tips & reviews......

Peace! X

I know isn't it awesome X? I was so thrilled when I connected my 11r this way.I was destined to use both amp head/cab and 11r live. And you are "marrying" 2 great pieces of gear, something about the tube head just pushing the 11r tone to blissful tone baby!!!! Enjoy, I use this set up live and again love it!!!

Lol.....Yea, at first it seemed silly to use my head as a power amp only, but the tones I'm getting out of the 11R w/ this Head/Cab combo are just wicked!!!!!

So rather than go direct to the PA, you're using the power section of your amp, with the cab and micing the cab? or do you still send a direct feed to the pa (without cab sims?)

Re: Best amp for 11R? - 10/29/13 06:42 AM

I have been miking cab, since I want my whole rig minus cab emulation coming from cab on stage. I could set the output to amp to "Amp Output" but again I wont have any effects (delay, reverb)present on stage since these effects are after the amp usually in my rigs..It would be great if you could have the main outs sending full rig to PA AND have output to amp set to rig out/no cab. This way I would not have to mic my cab..But it still sounds great since Im using great mic,(Sennheiser 409). As soon as you set an output to amp to rig out/no cab your mains will not have cab emu. as well. One of the few things I would change on the 11r.

I'm been thinking about getting a HD 500 is well since I already have the speakers and it looks like it would be quite good.

Re: Best amp for 11R? - 10/31/13 11:06 AM

So I got the velocity... it's weak. Tone is fine but I will never be able to hear it over our drummer.

So I'm going to run it into the PA, and since I have 6 monitor sends I'm going to use one just for my guitar. put a wedge in front of me and I'll be good to go. I have a 15" mackie thump I'm not using for anything else so I was thinking of using that, but it might have a bit too much low end. I'll let y'all know after I give it a try.
