These headphones are really light and comfortable. I bumped up the bass a little after I heard how deep and defined the lows were, but you can mix perfectly flat. There's a lot of "room" you can hear in your mix, and can hear if you make things too boxy. I almost want to apologize for not having decent headphones for quite a while now.

I'm curious how this is sounding with everyone's monitoring, it definitely has translated into a much less muddy and more defined mix on everything I've heard so far. The bass is supposed to be kind of thick, the frequency range of the cans is 18Hz-22kHz and you can definitely hear down there when EQing the bass frequencies. My first mix was really flat, but I wanted it to sound a bit "bigger" so EQ'd the mix, the vocals sat a lot nicer in the flatter NOT EQ'd version, but I feel like at least I have control over that if I want.

Did a thick mix where I tried to fill in all of the excess "space" after hearing some albums like Dream Theater and Tesseract.

The headphones are only $60 if you're interested in checking them out. http://www.akg.com/pro/p/k92

Sounded good but just a tad on the Bassy side. I listened to it on Sony MDR-V300 headphones I bought years ago before Circuit City closed up shop. I have a set of Roland headphones also that will give it a totally different sound and both are my go-to for initial mixing. Once I get it to sound decent on those, then I put it on speakers and start all over.

Thanks, I'm guessing that once I hear the bass, it's probably good. I think I'm used to having to make it bigger in all the monitors and headphones I've ever had (except lately I used consumer grade ones that boosted a bunch of frequencies so had to guess a lot).

I wished my hearing was like it used to be 20 years ago. I was mixing some practice sessions down for one of my bands and the lead singer was telling me I had too much bass in his vocals when he played it back on his iPod. He has it set up so when he is working in the fields, he can listen to it. I don't have all the high-end plug-ins to do a proper mastering mix, don't plan on getting them either since I do this just to help the bands out and not produce anything commercially. If I was doing this for a living, yeah, getting top notch gear would be a priority but doing it just so the bands can get better and tighter, I'll stick with the middle of the road gear.

I started using Pro Tools again last night because it seems like you can hear things better...like even if it's the same plugin that I use it Cakewalk, it's like the sound is boosted or something so I can hear the subtleties. Then I had to start playing around with all the Air plugins and things again. They are pretty great, especially if you're mixing analog and tube driven sounds.

It takes forever to mix vocals right without the Waves SSL 4000 channel's vocal presets though. Sonar Platinum has a very good Pro Channel that has the SSL comp built in and the EQ is very good, I still find myself trying to get the same sound without the expensive plugins since you can save several plugins as an fx chain preset, but it's very time consuming the first time. I wish you could do that in Pro Tools bc I have my goto stack of inserts and I had to remember how to set up an FX Bus and things all over again and it took me forever lol
