after about an hour of getting close but something wasn't quite there, i realized that i wasn't thinking "Djent" enough.

i ended up adding a tube screamer (of all things) to an already overdriven bass amp. more tweaking ensued.

if you plug in a bass and start jamming, all is well. if you go looking at the settings, you will scratch your head and say "that ain't right".

i went WAY out of the box to get this sound with ONLY the eleven rack. i hope somebody besides me appreciates this tone.

before you go tweaking away on this preset, try it in the context of a mix, or at least along with some drums. this type of bass sound almost needs drums to clean it up and give it some ummmpff.

try it out and tell me what you think.

Glad someone is attacking this tone, it's killer.

Something I noticed mixing around with your tune was the Recti-Fi plugin has a bass setting, actually made the mix sound a lot better like the guitars had a new tone. Wasn't able to bounce it for some weird reason, but it sounds cool. I'd probably track with it then turn it off mix time if you want the bass to be more independent like this tone.

I wish they would add the Sansamp and Recti-fi to the next Expansion.

Damn you guys work fast around here:D I didn't even have time to start the thread and singtall already cracked the tone, haha!

I'm not at the studio atm but will give this a try tommorow night, can't wait.
Some additional info i wanted to add: this stuff was recorded by Paul Ortiz, better known as Chimp Spanner. Uk based songwriter, producer, his album "At the Dream's Edge" is amazing, i highly reccomend it . My favourite track on the album: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72RP8lvHcqc

Anyway, back to the clip...

I'm 99% sure that was done with his Schecter Stilleto bass and a PODxt, i've been following his stuff for a couple of years now and i'm pretty sure that was the setup he had at the time. I have no idea what he did in post proccessing though...it's the best heavy bass tone i ever heard imo, so much growl and low end yet defined and clear at the same time. What bass were using to nail this Singtall? I don't have a Spector or anything of that caliber so my Peavey Cirrus BXP 5 string(active pups) will have to do:)

i'm using a Spector Korean 5 string bass. great value for the money. i got this one used on ebay for about $350 a few years ago. it has that grind to it that comes easy on almost any rig.

i originally had a compressor in the signal chain before the amp to get a boost, but it was mushing the tone a little. you might try moving the compressor post amp and try it and see if it adds anything special to the tone.

That little clip sounded awesome !!!

You should turn that into a song for sure!

Regretfully I can't join in the bass-presetfun, since I don't have a bass frown
