Posted this on the DUC and Gear Page forums too so obviously wanted to share here too!

I did a real short video to show the Eleven Rack and the Expansion Packs new PEQ and Dyn3 Compressor in action.

Eleven Rack & Expansion Pack Acoustic Guitar Demo

It was really great being able to record acoustic straight to the Eleven Rack in low latency mode finally without feeling like I needed to add compression on the actual track in ProTools. The less plug-ins the better as far as I'm concerned!

So it's a short piece of an instrumental I wrote and basically a one take, two tracks recorded simultaneously deal...

1) A mono dry mic signal.
2) A stereo wet mic signal.

I mixed in the dry track about 70% or so in with the stereo track to give a little room ambience and to capture more tone from the guitar.

LOVING the Exp Pack AGAIN... have I said that already?

I am really new to recording acoustic myself so any tips, critiques are certainly welcome as always!

As always, thanks in advance for your time. smile

YES! ... someone who wants to explore the acoustic wonderfullness of this might box and share with those of us less fortunate. Considering your track (or tracking) record here I am stoked to view this afterwork and try some of your recording ideas out this weekend. wink

Cool! I'd love to hear more acoustic stuff from everyone too so I can get some recording tips myself. I am just limited mic wise so I really want to get some more mic's but it's always on my short list of things I "need" smile LOL

I like the tune and the tone, it sounds good. Larivee can build a real nice guitar too.

I want to do some recording of my nylon acoustic. It has a piezo bridge so I need to experiment with overdubs mixing mic'ed and piezo signals. I wish I could record both at the same time...

As far as good, reasonably priced mics, check out the Rode M3. I have one and it's a great "all arounder". They are built like tanks and have a 10 year warranty as well.

Very nice. You are quite a prolific writer, player, and ERUG member. I am very impressed, and grateful that you share with everyone.

Sounds nice. I sort of stumbled upon the sound I wanted for the longest time the first time I ever mic'd acoustic. I aimed a SM57 right at the opening of the guitar and the harmonics and picking were really nice. I had to try not to move around too much but it was worth it. I was always told to use about 3 mics to get the best sound, but always went for doubling the tracks and EQ-ing, and throwing in some open harmonic overdubs on top of that to make them stand out even more.

As far as a tip, based the clip would like to hear the fingers on the strings sound a lot more. I like the high pitched dynamics of hands moving around on acoustics. Don't know if you can EQ them in (13k or so) probably have to have the mic closer. One time I found an old microphone that fit inside the guitar that captured it well. If you can listen to Lanny Cordola "Hungry Hallow" you can hear what I am talking about. He uses the sound of the strings slapping as percussion also. Always loved that sound. I think he might have mics all over the fretboard and what not to capture it so well but the close mic thing should do it too.

Sweet you can actually get mp3 format and hear samples now on Amazon...

You can hear it really good on the Amazing Grace sample.

Dave Weiner shows a two mic setup for the sound hole and the neck. There's not an amazing sound on the video or anything but on his albums it sounds awesome.
