I am having an issue with a session in protools. I imported a reference track into a new pro tools session and when I turn on my Eleven Rack to record a track, the reference track plays about a half step lower than it should. When I turn off my 11R, It plays at the proper pitch. This happened to me a year ago, but I forget what I did to fix it. Any ideas?

This sounds like the reference track was originally recorded at 48khz and the 11r is trying to track at 44.1khz..

You should check the properties of the reference track audio file, see what the sample rate is for that file and then check what sample rate your 11r is set to.

Let us know if that solves the problem.

Awesome! Thanks for the quick response Downrazor11! When I switch the 11R to 48khz, it works properly.

My next question would be, do I leave the 11R to track at 48 kHz?

Or should I try to find a different reference track that might have been recorded at 44.1 kHz ? I purchased it on I Tunes.

You can dither the track to 44.1 if you want, but if the reference track is an mp3 you run the risk of introducing artifacts. Best is if iTunes offers a download choice, then definitely download the ref track at 44.1k.

Some people are able to run the 11r at 48k just fine, though some people have reported some issues with this (just search clock or 48khz on here to see what I mean).

I would run the 11r at 48k, and then if you run into issues then dither and re-bounce the ref track to 44.1k and run the 11r at 44.1k.

edit: actually, the prob might have been with the 44.1k setting but I can't remember.. 48k should be fine..

I guess it would be easiest to keep the 11R at 48khz and hope there are no hiccups. I hate to keep asking questions, but I'm lost when it comes to this kinda stuff but would I need to change my Protools session to 48 kHz as well? Thanks for your help.

So... As it turns out, my reference track was recorded at 44.1khz. The problem was caused by my Fast Track Pro interface being set to 48khz.I set it to 44.1khz and problem is solved. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

No problem man! Glad you got it figured out.

I know the older versions of protools had sessions that operated at only one sample rate, but pt12 might be able to accommodate multiple sample rates in the same session, I am not sure. I know reaper can do this. Either way, it is probably best to keep all of your supporting audio files at the same sample rate to avoid possible problems with the audio in other DAWs..
