i'm just getting started with a Superpack of presets. my first presets will be freebies as i'm just getting to know the unit and it's capabilities. the presets will get better as i get better at knowing what this unit can do. i will share my process as i make presets:

1) establish the Singtall tone on every amp model.

i take the time to experiment with each and every medium to high gain amp model and cabinet combination and save presets of each model made to sound the way that i like. this teaches me what eq is needed on each amp to achieve a certain tone. some amps need mids added, some need it scooped out. all that matters is that i get my tone and learn the eq process of each amp.

i also learn the "feel" of each amp model in the process. some amps require a tube screamer or eq to tighten them up. some amps feel better for single note leads as opposed to just riffing around. you might want to call this "thickness". whatever you want to call it, the feel of an amp is something you need to know if you want to dial in presets outside of what you like. feel creates tone; plenty of bottom end before the distortion will cause the amp to fatten up...this may feel great for low gain, but suck for high gain. it's important to know when to use thickness. for example: thick amps would be the SLO and the Dumble.

i'm finding that amp models that i was well familiar with on other modelers sound and feel completely different on the AmpliFire. for example: the SLO and Dumble. the SLO on this unit is so thick and corpulent that i needed to dump just about everything below 1Khz before the amp to tighten it up. but it tightens up nicely while still retaining the tone of tubes of fire. the Dumble is very smooth, but no top end at all. it has gain for days. this unit's Dumble model is my favorite.

A little something to bump the post. I have high hopes for this. If only it also contained the audio interface, I could survive if my son borrowed the Eleven Rack for extended periods.

singtall,

after working with the Amplifire for awhile, how has your opinion of it changed?

not much. i think it is great for what it does and it has it's place for sure. the new amp models add some better feel to the unit, but until they add the Friedman HBE amp model i won't be 100% happy.

i made a bunch of new presets that should be available once the new firmware is publicly available. those new presets are a step in the right direction.

don't be alarmed....it took a long time before i bonded with the 11R, and look at what i've done with it.
