Looking to record a drum kit and have only 2 mic inputs on my Scarlett 6i6 interface. I have 2 monitors and a laptop with pro tools. Is this all I need? One mic for the kick and one near the snare. I also have the eleven rack and a Crown amp. Just trying it out and looking for feedback before I drag all the gear to another place to record. Thank you.

Do you only have two mics? I was doing 4 mics into an analog mixer then to my interface as a stereo track. One kick. One snare. Two overhead condenser mics crossing each other(something I read on the web a while back). Took many takes to get something I could live with. It became tough when it was time to eq the track. Trying to get a powerful kick without making the toms to boomy. Did that for a few yrs. it works. I think singtall had a couple posts last yr doing mic'd drums. I eventually went with ezdrummer 2 and just program them in my piano roll.

It is a great technique, if you do it correctly. Here's how:
