I just thought I would share with those who were fans of his work, and that may not have heard. Jim Marshall passed away today (4/5/12), at the young age of 88!

What a legacy he has left behind.

It should be a moment of turn your amp to 11

I often think, IF I had to go out and buy a tube amp...what would I go for...

JCM800. Simple. Perfect - and captures all those tones you love.

You can bash Marshall for some of their later stuff, but in terms of sheer icons, classic and modern tones, and what he did to compliment the electric guitar - the man is a genius.

RIP Jim. I expect there tribute concert to be pretty amazing.

RIP!

He leaves behind one hell of a legacy ... If it were not for his amplifiers, a lot of our favorite music might have sounded mighty different or wouldn't have been at all ...

All or of the grandfathers of rock guitar are gone now: Les Paul, Leo Fender, Seth Lover (inventor of the humbucking pickup), and now Jim Marshall. RIP to all of them.

Since so many amps were based on Fender amps (including Marshall, Mesa, and a few others), and just about every electric guitar out there is a derivative of a Tele, Strat, or Gibson design, I wonder what music would sound like today if not for those four men. Would it all be made on Gretches and Rics with single-coil pickups, played through Silvertone amps?

I saw yesterday he had passed on. R.I.P. Jim Marshall. My tone would not be the same without his passion for great amps. I have owned nine Marshalls. I currently own four. He will be missed by many.
