I thought you might be interested to hear what this guy says about what he calls "Sound Imprints" it is a way he makes IR's maybe give you some ideas on creating some...
I was having some trouble posting them so I put the links up too.

Come on you guys out there that make your own IR from scratch have you ever tried anything like this what he is talking about taking a piece of audio with an isolated guitar track and making an IR with it

Cool, I've been working on getting an IR that doesn't have that cavernous sound (somehow the axe fx doesn't seem to have it so much as other modelers either even with the same IRs). It's more dependent on the preamp and power amp to shape the tone (so instead of trying to capture that they will always have to be running as well as some compression and other things that wouldn't feel right). I was gonna write something about the process bc it's 75% just capturing digital stuff like the PSA-1 in Pro Tools (this was impossible to get an IR of for some reason, but somehow I finally made on work and so that's one IR that is used in blending with the speaker sim of my Two Notes preamp, a Promimity plugin gives that some depth/in the mix sound (blended with a real speaker/the only IR I made of a speaker with a BBE on just to capture that presence boost and whatever else it does mostly), and reverb from an EMT140 IR that I liked (spent a lot of time messing around taming it down from the original).

I think what he's doing here is more like the Tone Vampire IRs only for the Helix. They sound great, I've heard a lot of good stuff from Line 6 lately with the right IRs. That would be fairly easy to do. Those same IRs might not do anything for another piece of gear, I've tried a lot of IRs I loved with Eleven Rack that don't sound/feel so great with other modelers or tube gear, so it's good to learn some basic EQing and how to use Deconvolver to make IRs if you want to simplify the process further. I think I have a tutorial on here somewhere for that. I still use that to make all my IRs. And SIR2 to load them because you can make longer, more accurate ones but then shorten/stretch (changes the hang time of the frequencies if you want darker/brighter sounds), and parametric EQing (in some cases you want the IR to have an EQ but still have it blended with the original sound, like for reverbs and stuff). But then you can have your "raw" IRs and make new ones that work best for what you're going for too.

NEW CABINET (4 VARIATIONS)

Thought I would finish up where I left off with fresh ears and share these before I get into my tweaking mode too much. Seem to work good with both my preamp and some modelers (with power amps off if you use Thermionik or other modelers with the power amp toggle).

If you use a Logidy EPSi in the effects loop or IR loader in your DAW these will work for both of those. I try to keep them usable with Logidy EPSis.

Thanx. I mean, if the "sound" is made "without power amp". As we spoke long time ago about. Or if they are made "normal", I mean for normal preamp ... made with power amp, box, mic. If you know what I mean.

Oh, yeah they're made with power amps too. Power amp, cabs, and mics usually.

Sometimes a speaker sim rather than an actual pa/cab/mic IR is useful too because it will have a different color for blending in with other tracks. I find they're hard to make IRs of bc some have pre and post EQs and compression involved and are best to just buy a PDI-09 speaker sim or Torpedo cabinet sim or something unless you are just recording at home and have the processing power for more plugins and things.
